What to do Today

11.07.12

Galatians 5.16-18 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. NASB

I know what you wanted and you didn’t get it, and now you are trying with all of your might to find something to be happy about; to find something to put your confidence in: walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

I know you are fearful and anxious, don’t be. I know you are dismayed by the choices of others and the opinions of others and what the future may hold if their choices and opinions beget more of their choices and opinions. There is only one choice and one opinion that matters and you are expected to embrace that and live according to that: walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

Today is a reminder that long, long ago a line was drawn in the sand and many crossed over that line seeking to make their life over there. Few remained on this side of the line and in the future, few will remain. Remain. Make up your mind right now: remain. The pressure will mount and the playing field will continue to be tilted in an unfair direction. Don’t worry, don’t be afraid. Just make sure you’re on the right side of the line and: walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

When one after another, Caesar replaced Caesar, you were told to Whom you belonged and your power against the Caesars was powerless. But you held your ground and you maintained your focus. Do it again. Do it again today; right now. The power you have is not the power of Caesar’s; he has no access to it. Never has, never will: walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

There is little that is fair in this life but there are endless things for you to be joyful about. It doesn’t always go your way. Remember, you have much to be thankful for and a home in a place where the unfairness of the world can never touch you – where smiles last an eternity and the aching in your heart will be replaced by a contentment and assurance that can only be seen in glimpses today: walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

When your brothers and sisters are persecuted and killed because of Him in Whom they believe, remember your place and remember your prayers. Remember your prayers and Who it is that hears them. His arm is not short, nor are His ears closed to what you talk to Him about. He has placed you right where you are for this very moment if for no other reason than to show those “over there” what it is like to live over here. Show them. Live enthusiastically in your hope. Hope is the reason to be enthusiastic! Show it. Live it. And by all means available to you: express it! Again: walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

Farewell this day – it’s the only one you have. You are being counted upon to: walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. Do well.
